Michael K. Packard, 65, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away on Monday, June 29 while piloting his glider at the 2009 Super Regional Competition in Parowan, Utah. Michael is survived by his mother Shirley Packard; brother Woody (Elinor); sisters Elaine, Peggy (Larry Russell) and Tammy (Tom Ashe); his wife of 40 years, Cathy; daughter Stacy (Scott McCallum) of Winter Park, FL; son Bret (Annie) of Littleton, CO; son Tyler (Rachel) of Aurora, CO; and seven grandchildren. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Frank L. Packard. Michael was born in Pocatello, Idaho on April 29, 1944. He graduated from Point Loma High School, Point Loma, CA, in 1962 and attended university at UCLA where he and Cathy first met. He spent his entire adult life rooting against USC. He had a long and successful career in real estate development starting with The Irvine Company in S. CA and culminating in his visionary work as founder and Managing General Partner of the SunBorne Companies based at Centennial Airport, CO. Michael’s love of aviation began early. With enthusiastic support from his father, he became the youngest solo glider pilot in the nation at age 14. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends who will remember his warm smile, integrity and love of all things family and aviation.
