Stanley Herbertson Duckworth, 86, of Bonita Springs, Fl, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2009 at Gulf Coast Hospital, Fort Myers, FL.
Stanley was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on November 20, 1922. He graduated from South Hills High School and went on to serve in the US Navy Air Corp during WWII. There he was a member of the Flying Bombers, Bearcats and Hell Cats. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Engineering. Some of the projects Stan managed were Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, the Alaskan Pipeline and the Seven Fields Development in Cranberry, PA.
His personal interests included tennis, softball, Gray Nineties Repertoire Theater, Citrus Park Chordsmen, and the Naples Philharmonic Chorus. He was Vice President of the Florida Mobile Home Assn. and President of the Citrus Park Home Owner’s Assn. One of Stan’s favorite hobbies was sailplane flying, and he was instrumental in founding the Pittsburgh Soaring Club.
Stan spent 6 months of his year at his home in Waynesburg, PA, and the remainder of the year in Citrus Park, FL where he lived as an active retiree.
He was preceded in death by his wife Edith Duckworth, brother Fergus and sister Gladys. Stanley is survived by his loving wife Janie, daughter Kim Myers, her husband William and grandchildren Kristen and Billy of Waynesburg, PA; brother Donald Duckworth and wife Peggy of Pinehurst, NC; stepchildren David Gregg and wife Kathleen of Waynesburg, PA; Marsha Dille of Palm Coast, FL and Amy Lambert and husband Mark of Orlando, FL; and step-granddaughters Angela Dille, Dana Gregg and Madison Lambert.
A memorial service is being planned for November 20, 2009 in Citrus Park. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
