Harry Clark Higgins was born on March 29, 1918 in San Diego. In 1942 he married Frances Wingate who remained his lifelong partner until his death on April 30, 2009. Clark served his country as a fighter pilot during the War, flying P38s in combat in the Aleutians and P59s and P80s in the first US jet squadrons. After the War he earned an aeronautical engineering degree at Berkeley and joined Boeing, where he worked for his entire professional career. Clark was proud of his service to his country and his work at Boeing; however, he also was troubled by what he called the “Insanity of War.” Therefore, he was devoted to peace as the foundation for US foreign policy. He also was active in the Democratic Party and a precinct worker for many years. He lived an active life as an accomplished glider pilot, flight instructor, bike rider, runner, swimmer, and skilled craftsman. He could make anything and held several patents. He continued to ski up into his 80’s. He tutored mathematics at Garfield High School and random strangers on the dangers of smoking. Clark would do anything for a friend and felt that everyone was his friend. Clark is survived by his wife, a brother, 3 children, 3 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 5 nieces and 2 nephews. Donations in his memory can be made to Wesley Homes Foundation, 815 S. 216th St, Des Moines, WA 98198.
