Former National Soaring Museum Director Shirley Sliwa of Daytona Beach, FL passed away unexpectedly December 13, 2006. She had been associated with the Museum for 17 years. From 1980 to 1990 she was its Director, and played a crucial role in its expansion. A 1990 winner of the Soaring Society of America’s highest award, the Warren E. Eaton Trophy, she was recognized nationally and internationally for her outstanding efforts on behalf of soaring and the National Soaring Museum. Mrs. Sliwa was twice awarded the SSA Certificate of Appreciation.
