Mr. Benjamin Franklin Mullen Jr., 81, of Yorkshire Road in Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at his home. He was born in Winston-Salem on July 8, 1924, to Fenjamin F. Mullen Sr. and Cleo Denny Mullen. He graduated from F.J. Reynolds high School and N.C. State University. During World War II, he served in the 436th Air Force Troop Carried Group. After his tour of duty, he returned to Winston-Salem. He married Doris Moore Mullen and enjoyed 49 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in 2001. Surviving are his two devoted children; his son, Steven Denny Mullen and his daughter-in-law Lucy H. Mullen, and his grand children, Kelley M. Mullen and Anna H. Mullen, all of Winston-Salem; his daughter, Janet Mullen Stafford, and his grandchildren, Andrew R. Stafford and Caroline C. Stafford, all of Greenwood Village, Colorado.; his brother, Robert Allen Mullen, of Raleigh; and sisters, Dorthy Hine and Majorie Hines, both of Winston-Salem. Also surviving is Dorisú loving brother, Milton J. Moore, and his family of Wilson. Ben was a kind and loving man who valued all people. He was devoted to his family and friends. Ben and his family attended and enjoyed Knollwood Baptist Church throughout his life. He loved to fly and mentor others in flying, and hld private pilot, commercial and glider ratings. Ben will be remembered as a compassionate and loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. A celebration of his life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, October 7, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Chris Chapman. The family will welcome friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. before the service at the funeral home.
