This is the second day of the contest but the first day of flying a task. As previously reported the task did not launch until 3:30 PM. Club Class was first to go followed by Standard Class. The 15Meter task was cancelled presumably because the late launch would have made an unfair task.
On Saturday JP Stewart, Daniel Sazhin and their crews Jakob Ziembicki and Donat Luigi, scouted out the fields that are on the perimeter on the finish cylinder. At the pilot briefings we learned that there are no land able fields close to airport. They created a file for the team that allowed them to select a field in their nav computers so team members could easily find them should they get low on final glide. This information would come in handy today as it would allow us to complete the task and not risk glider and pilot.
On the final leg of the task Jp and Daniel called in to ask that their crews prepare their trailers. As we watched them (https://glideandseek.com/?viewport=46.32062,2.62642,11 and https://www.wgc2021.fr/?page_id=2437) get closer to finish circle Daniel called in to say he had final glide, and watch him land a few minutes later. JP on the other hand was a victim of a fast deteriorating day. He selected the nearest field he had scouted out on Saturday made safe landing and completed the task.
Results are Daniel Sazhin in 3rd for the day and JP Stewart 10th on the day. Great start for our Club Class.
For tracking and following the completion the above sites show the number of the IGC Tracker that each pilot is required to carry not Contest ID that makes it easy to follow specific pilots. These trackers were provided by the organizers and use the OGN network which displays flight data 15 minutes delayed. I will be asking tomorrow if this will continue or will contest numbers be displayed as this greatly improve the spectator aspect with is one the primary purpose of the trackers. At the lease I will provide what numbers apply to which Pilot. Stay tuned for this update.
