On the grid on day 2. We have had a number of technical difficulties with the glider that have been mostly sorted out. Time has been very short due to early meetings/briefings, long periods of “grid-squat” with launch times being pushed back, and general technical issues. Today we got a warning for not being visible on the tracking website, we spent about an hour working with Captain Pete to sort out this issue before first launch. It is good to be in the back of the grid. It is also good to have so much wing for some shade. Very high temps forecast for next couple of days…
WGC Hosin contest day 2 from the contest site:
“This morning we started again with overcast left from yet another dissipating front. Briefing was at 10:00. The weather started to improve faster today compared to yesterday and the high clouds have already cleared from the airport. We expect first launches around 12:00. Two tasks are prepared for today. Task A is racing about 350 km due to showers and thunderstorms we expect around Hosín in later afternoon. In case the weather would suddenly improve we have task B ready, racing with distance over 400km for all classes.” Racing Tasks A in pix below . #ussoaringteams

PWR back seat:
The winner was just over 100mph in the open class. As you can see from the video it did not look like a 100mph day. But a short day with a few long glides. The pre-start you can see the blue hole the winners went straight through it, picked up a little wisp that Mike and I debated. That gave them less deviation to the cloud street left of course. The pack kept going left, we went back to the right and the winners went less back and forth. We all made it into the second turn and home the same way. I think our final glide was over 110km.
Congrats to DT on his top 10 finish.
WGC Hosin: Contest day 2 is “in the bag” and the day proved to be better than appeared at launch time. From the contest site:

WITH GREY AND BROKEN SKY AT THE TIME OF OPENING THE START GATES WE WERE NOT SURE IF THE TASK SETTING FOR TODAY WAS RIGHT. EVERYBODY ON GROUND WATCHED TRACKING AND HAD DOUBTS ABOUT THE CALCULATED SPEEDS. WE HAD GREY SKY AROUND HOSIN WHOLE DAY, WITH ALMOST NO USEABLE CLOUDS. BUT PILOTS ARRIVED WITH AMAZING SPEEDS. OPEN CLASS OVER 161 KPH, 18M CLASS OVER 142 KPH AND 20M CLASS WITH ALMOST 135 KPH. FORECAST FOR NEXT DAYS LOOKS PRETTY GOOD SO PILOTS WILL CONTINUE ENJOYING FLIGHTS OVER CZECH REPUBLIC.”
